Good morning, we are going to recap, I know that I have been MIA this past month and I am sorry. Work has been crazy and honestly, I have been giving more of myself to other people's dreams. You know how that is. I do love my job though and I am blessed to have it. My name is Brandy Horton and the founder of Christian Life Mentor, my goal is to help women and men overcome trauma, I do group sessions as well as one on one sessions in the Houston area or virtually. Trauma is my passion guys LITERRALY. I have a 6-month program that will heal your trauma, you just have to stick out. I always discuss the importance of therapy but also the effects it has, I was a MH professional and counseled individuals but I wasn’t happy because it wasn’t the clientele that I wanted, with Christian Life Mentor I am able to counsel individuals cost-effectively, and free in the group sessions. The scripture of the day before I discuss the topic of the day is "so do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will upload you with my righteous right hand.' Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God – Philippians 4;6-7 NIV. Guys this is the perfect scripture when we talk about trauma because as we know, most people that have experienced trauma have experienced some level of anxiety and depression. We need God’s word when we are experiencing anxiety/depression at all times as much as possible, the better we understand God’s word, the more we remind ourselves of the power of prayer and having the faith of just having hope. Without the word of God, nothing makes no sense, with it, you are able to be transformed. A quick recap of last week's group session for the members of the group as well as new members and readers/ listeners. Last week we discussed what trauma is, and how it can affect us in the everyday life experiences. Trauma is defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience, which we all know and understand, this can be anything the responses after trauma is intense fear, helplessness, attachment, avoidant, aggressive behaviors, isolation, and the list can go on. Prolonged exposure to repetitive or severe events such as child abuse, witnessing violence as a child, molestation/ rape, and even neglect is likely to cause the most severe and lasting effects due to the absence of essential physical or emotional care that a child is supposed to feel IE safety.
The perception of trauma or what is considered traumatic varies from person to person
Trauma, unfortunately, overwhelms our coping capacity- which affects us emotionally, physically, intellectually, and even spiritually.
We also briefly discussed the ACE questionnaire, please visit and complete the ace questionnaire on my website and message me what your score is and what exactly you think about it, this score can paint a great picture of your healing journey and will help me develop a plan to heal your trauma.
The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Questionnaire (Felitti et al., 1998) is a 10-item measure used to measure childhood trauma. The questionnaire assesses 10 types of childhood trauma measured in the ACE Study. Five are personal: physical abuse, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, physical neglect, and emotional neglect. This was scary when I learned about it in graduate school, and unfortunately, I scored the highest number. At that moment I knew it was time to heal my own trauma. We will learn more about the ACE questionnaire as time goes on. In the next group, we will quickly do a recap and learn more of the effects of trauma (impact of trauma) and the 3 phases of trauma healing. Again, trauma is very broad and can take years to unpack, but my goal is to give it to you straight, to get you healed and become a trauma warrior!
